US farm bailout should not go to foreign companies – senate Democrats

Senate Democrats are urging President Trump to ensure the USDA farm bailout does not end up in the hands of foreign companies.

According to reporting from Reuters, nine Democratic senators are petitioning the Trump administration to ensure that aid meant to shield US farmers for losses incurred from the US-China trade war does not end up benefitting foreign companies.

In a letter addressed to the Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, senators noted that a commodity purchasing programme in part of last year’s $12 billion aid package included contracts with companies that were subsidiaries of foreign agricultural corporations. After reports that the current $16 billion aid package would include many of the same provisions, senators are urging the government to ensure aid money does not benefit foreign companies.
