Free range producers will be able to enter specific details of their flock – including bird numbers and production figures – then compare their contract price in a league table format.

The name of each farm’s packer will be visible to users, but all other data will be anonymous to encourage participation.

BFREPA is launching the Costings Portal during a free one-hour webinar on Thursday 1 October at 4pm where the findings of an ADAS report forecasting the impact of cage-free 2025 commitments from major retailers and food service companies will also be presented.

With some sourcing intentions still unclear, in-depth research from ADAS Senior Consultant Jason Gittins has explored whether demand for free range eggs is likely to increase.

The report is an important update to BFREPA’s original analysis – now taking into account the development of recognised barn production standards and market changes which weren’t available in 2017.

“BFREPA was the first to analyse the potential impact of cage-free commitments on the sector but we are now three years on and the situation has evolved,” said BFREPA CEO Robert Gooch.

“We need to look ahead and plan for the future, and this report will help the free range egg sector to anticipate and prepare for a variety of outcomes.

“With the new Costings Portal and the ADAS report we are arming free range producers with the information they need to make important decisions based on facts and figures, not industry gossip.”

The webinar takes place on the date earmarked for BFREPA’s annual conference and awards, which was cancelled due to coronavirus.

“We hope this format will allow our members and the rest the of the egg sector to engage with us, even if we can’t meet in our usual way,” Robert added.
