China bans poultry imports from Ireland due to bird flu

China has banned poultry imports from Ireland due to highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu, General administration of customs said in a statement on Friday, December 25.

According to Reuters, the statement noted that the trade move, which went into effect Dec. 25, was made to protect the country's animal husbandry sector.

China has reported an outbreak of H5N8 bird flu in swans in the northern province of Shanxi.
