H5N8 bird flu detected in wild swans in Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has identified a case of H5N8 avian influenza in two wild swans, marking the first case of bird flu in nearly a year.

Reuters reports that the swans were in the country’s southern district of Pisek.

Avian influenza, or bird flu, has been spreading rapidly in Europe, putting the poultry industry on alert after previous outbreaks led to the culling of tens of millions of birds.
