Avian influenza outbreaks continue in UK

Protection zones have been put around both sites

This past weekend, UK Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) officials announced two new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1.

On Friday, H5N1 was confirmed on a premises near Ledbury, North Herefordshire, Herefordshire. On Saturday, a second outbreak of H5N1 was confirmed in birds at a premise near Elmswell, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk.

A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone has been put in place around both premises. All birds on the infected premises will be humanely culled.
