The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported two new cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), which took place in commercial poultry flocks in California.

The first involved a 34,800-bird broiler breeder flock in Fresno. The second involved a 161,000-bird commercial turkey flock in Tuolumne.

HPAI was reported just four days earlier on a 33,900-bird commercial broiler breeder farm in Fresno. Previous to that, there were no other confirmed cases of HPAI in California on commercial operations. There was, however, one case reported in backyard poultry.
