Arkansas reported its first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI)  this year last Friday, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The outbreak involved a 56,000-bird flock of broiler breeder pullets.

Several other US states reported cases on the same day, including Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota and Utah. Most were small outbreaks except for the two in Utah, both in Sanpete, which impacted commercial turkey meat operations with 26,700 and 38,900 birds.

State officials quarantined the affected premises, and birds on the property are being humanely depopulated.t
