Between August and September 2022, the producer price for animals and animal products rose by 2.0% in Belgium, according to a press release from Stablel, the country's statistical office. The producer price for pigs rose by 4.8% and that for eggs by 15.5%.

At the horticultural level, there were also price increases compared to September 2021. In general, the vegetable index has risen by 64.6%, with a more pronounced increase for vegetables in open field (witloof chicory and leeks), while the fruit index has risen by only 2.9%. As the prices for apples and pears at the beginning of the season were lower than last year, it is the small fruits that have helped to raise the index.

In parallel to these increases in producer prices, input prices were 26.0% higher in September 2022 than in the same period of 2021. Prices for energy, fertiliser and feeds have also risen sharply in recent months.
