Bulgaria’s poultry sector had a recovery period in marketing year 2021 with slight growth, according to a recent USDA GAIN report.

Despite sharply increased feed prices, the pandemic’s negative impact on the hospitality and tourism sectors has waned and the export market has slightly improved. This led to an increase in poultry inventory, and higher poultry and broiler meat output.

The growth continued in 2022 with increases in production, exports, and consumption, although pre-pandemic levels have not yet been reached. The positive developments were driven by a strong tourist and travel season, although food and energy inflation, as well as political uncertainty, are projected to continue to impact price-sensitive consumers and the industry.
