Ukraine's large agricultural holding MHP has started 2023 spring sowing and plans to plant various crops across a total of 352,500 hectares in 12 Ukrainian regions, Reuters reported, citing the company on Tuesday.

Ukraine has said it expects a reduced sowing area this year because of the invasion and occupation of a significant part of the country by Russia.

MHP said on Facebook the area of grains and oilseeds could total 255,500 hectares this year.

It gave no comparative figures but said that the areas sown with grains have been reduced from a year ago while the areas of oilseeds have been increased.

The Ukrainian agriculture ministry said last week that all regions had started the spring sowing, seeding a total of 500,000 hectares of various crops.

The ministry last month said the grain sowing area could decrease by 1.4 million hectares to 10.2 million in 2023 while the area sown to oilseeds could rise.
