Mexico and the European Union agreed to quickly finalize an updated free trade deal, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Thursday in a post on social media after meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reported Reuters.

Both sides aim to sign a deal by the end of the year, according to Mexican government statement.

Lopez Obrador and Von der Leyen discussed shared challenges including immigration, inflation, food security and energy, the statement said.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Mexico is the last stop of Von der Leyen's Latin American tour, which included earlier visits to Brazil, Argentina and Chile.
