Cobb Europe and Sovereign Foods, one of the largest broiler integrators in South Africa, have signed a multiplier agreement to expand the distribution of Cobb500 products in the South Africa markets, the Republics of Namibia and Lesotho and the Kingdom of Eswatini markets, according to a company press release.

Sovereign has a long history of production and growth in the South African market. With operations in three provinces, Eastern Cape, Gauteng and Limpopo, Sovereign is an influential leader in the poultry industry and the ideal partner for Cobb in South Africa.

“This new agreement not only reaffirms the excellent relationship between our companies, but it also strengthens the commitment from both parties to make the distribution of Cobb products in South Africa a success,” said Roy Mutimer, Vice President of EMEA and APAC. “The Cobb500 broiler is in high demand due to its efficiency in the South African market, so we have no doubt Cobb500 will be welcomed by all chick producers and broiler companies.”

“Sovereign is proud to become the Cobb multiplier after having signed the agreement and is looking forward to growing the Cobb brand in the target markets. Sovereign believes that the Cobb product has great potential to expand its market share and is excited about working with our partners from Cobb EU on this opportunity,” said Chris Coombes, CEO, Sovereign.

“Having worked with Sovereign for many years, I am excited to strengthen our relationship,” said Richard Weatherley, commercial manager, Cobb Europe. “It is great to partner with the Sovereign team who bring a real strength in poultry knowledge and a forward-thinking attitude that can be seen by their continuous expansion in South Africa. I have no doubt that they will provide the market with the best quality chicks that will allow all our customers to unlock the genetic potential of the Cobb 500.”

Pieter Oosthuysen, senior manager of accounts and technical for Africa, will be handling all marketing, PS sales and customer technical support.

"I am happy to be increasing our sales in the market with the support of Cobb Europe and our new partner, Sovereign,” said Pieter Oosthuysen. “I’ve been working with customers and the Cobb 500 for
over 28 years, and I’m proud to see our markets growing.”

Oosthuysen previously helped establish the Cobb 500 breed in South Africa which captured significant independent market share before he joined Cobb Europe to look after more African markets. In addition to his support, specialist technical support will be provided by Cobb Europe in nutrition, veterinary, hatchery, broilers and ventilation. The South African market has experienced good growth over the past three years.
