The Netherlands will cull about 65,000 chickens on a farm in the centre of the country after detection of a highly infectious strain of avian influenza, Reuters reported, citing the government.

The outbreak is the first in the Netherlands since late July. Last year more than 6 million birds in the country had to be culled after dozens of outbreaks of a new variant of the disease.
