Chicken prices stabilise as Brazil resumes exports
Poultry sector optimistic after bird flu restrictions liftedChicken meat and live animal prices in Brazil stopped falling in late June, ending a downward trend that began in late May. According to a recent market update from Cepea, the shift followed Brazil’s reinstatement of its bird flu-free status on June 18, after complying with international protocols.
Although consumer demand slowed at the end of the month due to reduced purchasing power, prices remained firm. Analysts attributed the stability to chicken meat’s strong competitiveness compared to pork and beef, along with the reopening of 16 export markets that had previously imposed restrictions.
Brazil exported an average of 16,000 tonnes of in natura chicken meat per day during the first 14 days of June, according to Secex. While this volume is 7.4% lower than May and 22% below June 2024, there was a 5% uptick in daily sales between the weeks of June 9 and June 16, suggesting that exports are beginning to recover.
