Brazil chicken farmers lose ground on input costs - Cepea
Corn and soymeal prices squeeze margins in AugustChicken farmers in São Paulo saw their purchasing power decline in August, according to Brazil’s Centre for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (Cepea). The drop follows gains recorded in July and reflects higher feed prices and lower live chicken quotations.
Cepea reports that the average price for live chickens in São Paulo fell 3.4 per cent from July to August, reaching 5.47 Brazilian reals per kilogram (US$1.00/kg). Prices were initially on an upward trend in early August, but weaker demand toward the end of the month pushed values lower, dragging down the monthly average.
Higher costs for corn and soybean meal—the primary feed inputs—contributed to tighter margins for producers.
