Wayne-Sanderson Farms has donated $250,000 to strengthen poultry workforce development at its Gainesville Campus, according to a report from the University of North Georgia (UNG).

The funding will support expanded hands-on training for students and help establish state-of-the-art facilities. Linda Purvis, associate professor of biology and poultry science, called the gift “transformational” for both students and the local community.

“This will cement poultry science on this campus for years to come while providing top-of-the-line education and practical industry applications to prepare our students for the workforce,” Purvis said.

Michael Crump, senior vice president and general manager of the fresh business unit for Wayne-Sanderson Farms, said the company values graduates from UNG’s poultry science program and sees them as critical to the sector’s future.

“They represent a vital part of our future, and we are proud to support the development of such talented individuals,” Crump said.

UNG said the gift underscores the value of industry-academic partnerships in building the next generation of leaders for Georgia’s poultry sector.
