Slovenia reported its first case of H5N1 bird flu this year on Thursday as Europe faces a resurgence of the virus, reported Reuters

It was detected in a dead mute swan near Lake Velenje, about 80 km (50 miles) northeast of the capital Ljubljana, the National Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection said on its website.

Farmers in the area will be required to keep their poultry indoors to prevent any spread, it added.

There have been 56 outbreaks in 11 European countries from August to mid-October, mostly in Poland - the top EU poultry producer - Spain and Germany, according to France's animal health surveillance body ESA.

Belgium and Slovakia last week reported their first bird flu cases of the season.
