Brazil’s chicken exports surge as China demand rebounds - ABPA
Sector nears record highs with 8% growth in October shipments
Brazilian chicken meat exports recorded the second-best monthly result in the sector’s history in October, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). A total of 501,300 tons were exported during the month, 8.2% higher than the 463,500 tons shipped in the same period last year.
As a result, cumulative exports from January to October reached 4.378 million tons, just 0.1% lower than the 4.380 million tons recorded in the same period last year.
“October’s performance is the highest since March 2023, when we recorded the sector’s monthly record. With the significant shipments of the month, we have practically eliminated the difference between the volumes shipped this year and last year, revising projections for probable growth in total shipments for 2025,” said ABPA president Ricardo Santin.
Export revenue in October reached US$865.4 million, a 4.3% decrease from the US$904.4 million recorded in October 2024. For the year to date (January to October), total revenue reached US$8.031 billion, down 1.8% from US$8.177 billion in the same period of the previous year.
South Africa was the leading destination for Brazilian chicken meat exports, importing 53,700 tons in October—an increase of 126.9% compared to the previous year. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (40,900 tons, +32%), Saudi Arabia (36,630 tons, +66.1%), the Philippines (34,000 tons, +38.2%) and Japan (29,700 tons, -25.5%).
“The recovery in China should be a significant new factor positively influencing the sector’s results in the final stretch of the year,” Santin added.
Paraná remains Brazil’s largest chicken meat exporter, with 205,100 tons (+7.9%), followed by Santa Catarina (111,600 tons, +5.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (60,900 tons, +8.8%), São Paulo (32,200 tons, +12.3%) and Goiás (27,300 tons, +44.4%).
