Brazil extends bird flu emergency for 180 days
Measure aims to ensure rapid response to future outbreaks
Brazil's Agriculture Ministry on Thursday extended a national animal health emergency over bird flu by 180 days, reported Reuters.
The extension is a "preventative measure aimed at maintaining the conditions needed for the ministry to adopt swift action to contain and eradicate outbreaks," it said in a statement.
Brazil, the world's largest poultry exporter, confirmed a bird flu outbreak on a commercial farm in May 2025. It controlled it without further cases at commercial farms, leading its key buyers to lift trade restrictions.
