DG Foods is expanding its poultry processing operations in Hazlehurst, Miss., with a $1.19-million investment that will create 32 jobs across two shifts, according to a company-issued press release

The Hazlehurst-based company processes and portions chicken, offering deboning, tender portioning and other custom services. The expansion centres on new automated chicken nugget equipment to meet growing customer demand. The second shift of 16 workers is scheduled to begin in mid-May.

DG Foods opened its original 55,000-square-foot facility in 2004 and currently employs about 375 people. The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through its MFLEX tax incentive program, with additional assistance from Copiah County.

"DG Foods' expansion in Hazlehurst shows how Mississippi companies can grow, modernize and stay competitive while continuing to create jobs in their hometowns," said Gov. Tate Reeves. "This $1.19 million investment strengthens an established local employer and brings dozens of new job opportunities to Copiah County."

Mississippi Development Authority executive director Bill Cork said the project was an example of reinvesting in existing employers. "This expansion creates jobs, ramps up production and drives local tax revenue, which keeps communities thriving."

CEO Chris Carter said the company was grateful for the state partnership. "We are excited to invest further in our Hazlehurst operations, strengthen our capabilities with new technology and create additional jobs for the community we call home."
