Twelve H5N1 human cases reported globally in ten months
Three deaths in Bangladesh and Cambodia, no human spread found
Twelve human infections with H5N1 bird flu have been reported across three countries outside the United States between August 2025 and June 2026, with three resulting in death, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Cases were reported in Bangladesh, Cambodia and India. The three deaths occurred in Bangladesh and Cambodia. No person-to-person transmission was identified in any of the cases.
The CDC said the cases do not change its assessment of the risk to the US public, which remains low.
The agency noted that sporadic human infections are not unexpected given widespread H5N1 detections in wild birds and ongoing poultry outbreaks globally, but said the cases underscore the importance of continued surveillance.
