Turkey remains a niche product in China, with whole birds consumed mainly by the western expatriate community during holiday seasons and turkey cuts used primarily as a high-protein alternative to pork in processed foods such as hot dogs, deli meats and ready-to-eat products, according to a USDA Foreign Agricultural Service poultry marketing update on China.

Russia and Chile dominate the market. The US has not exported fresh or chilled turkey meat to China since 2024, with trade in 2025 limited to prepared and preserved product. No trade was reported in the first quarter of 2026.
