Newcastle Disease Recurs in Fighting Birds

PERU - A second report has been received about an outbreak of Newcastle disease in a flock of fighting cocks.

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 23 July to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes one outbreak of Newcastle disease in a flock of 211 fighting cocks in the village of Pueblo Nuevo, near Chepé in the region of La Libertad on the north-west coast of the country. In total, 27 birds showed symptoms, 11 died and 16 cockerels were destroyed.

A number of control actions have been implemented by the authorities.

This is the fourth outbreak of Newcastle diseases in the country since December 2009.
