Gov. Gives Boost to Malawi Poultry Sector
MALAWI - The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has given the Development of Malawian Enterprises Trust (Demat) K15.8 million credit to be given to poultry farmers to boost the poultry sector in the country.Director of agriculture, health and livestock development Wilfred Lipita said in Liwonde, Machinga on Thursday government was committed to reduce poverty among entrepreneurs in the country so that people, especially poultry farmers, benefit.
“You know government through Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security commends the activities carried out by Demat, therefore it is its obligation to see that many people benefit towards the scheme. But I would urge you participants to work hard in your areas to see that many borrowers are repaying their loans for smooth running of your institution, Demat,” he said.
Lipita said this when he closed a three-day orientation workshop on broiler and layer management on credit and guidelines organised by Demat for credit officers and administration assistants.
Seventeen participants drawn from the country’s three regions and Demat headquarters managers attended the workshop. The participants included eight women officers.
