Union Reps Chicken Out of CDGK Meeting
PAKISTAN - The City District Government Karachi (CDGK) held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the constantly increasing prices in the poultry sector. However officials of two of the major organizations of the poultry industry that were invited did not show up.

“The meeting was held with representatives of the Pakistan Poultry Association and the Karachi Wholesale Poultry Association to discuss the frequently increasing prices,” said a CDGK source.
Currently, poultry is being sold for Rs 120 to Rs 140 per kg in some localities, it is being sold for Rs 78 to Rs 86 whereas eggs cost around Rs 56 per dozen. In the last year alone, prices have increased by 29 percent throughout the country. In Karachi, the prices have increased by Rs 16 per kg. According to the poultry industry, this is due to the increase in the costs of poultry feed which now cost Rs 235 for a 50 kg bag. However neither the CDGK or poultry associations know the exact figure of poultry shops in Karachi.
“The poultry business make huge profit since they only pay Rs 500 tax per year to the CDGK,” said an Enterprises and Investment Promotion Department (EIPD) of CDGK official. “ This tax was levied on September 21, 2006 when The City Council passed a resolution to levy this tax.”
