Print This Page Gecko in Egg Could Hold Key to Salmonella
AUSTRALIA - A tiny gecko that was found in a chicken egg may hold the key to Salmonella food safety, scientists say.According to Live News, the surprising find was made on Sunday night by Dr Peter Beaumont, the Northern Territory President of the Australian Medical Association.
He was cooking Thai fishcakes using eggs bought from a Darwin supermarket when he discovered the dead gecko inside an egg shell, trapped between the inner shell and the membrane.
Dr Beaumont says it could help solve a food poisoning puzzle.
He's told the ABC the gecko must have climbed inside the chook along the egg tube and died there before the egg formed around it.
