The association was formed in Bulawayo on 16 July will include members of the industry from all corners of the country, reports The Chronicle.

The formation of the association came after the realisation that the poultry industry was on the verge of collapse with many farmers opting out due to viability problems.

The association elected George Nare as the chairman, Melody Makumbe as secretary, John Chipadza as treasurer and Stanley Mwalamba, as the committee member.

"Poultry farmers have decided to unite and form the association, in light of the challenges such as critical shortage of stock feed, high input costs and high costs of day old chicks facing the farmers," said Mr Nare.

He said the association would help farmers to source drugs and feed as it is proving difficult for individual farmers to access these inputs.
