Butterball Sells Longmont Brand

US - Butterball has sold its Longmont brand to Sigma Alimentos of Mexico. Job losses at the plant in Colorado are not expected.

Butterball LLC has announced the sale of its Longmont brand to Sigma Alimentos, Mexico's largest producer and distributor of refrigerated and frozen food. The sale was completed October 30, 2008. The financial details surrounding the purchase are not being disclosed.

The sale of the Longmont brand will not result in loss of jobs at Butterball's facility in Longmont, Colorado.

Butterball's Longmont facility will be partnering with Sigma Alimentos to produce products under the Longmont brand. The Sigma Alimentos purchase of the Longmont brand fits into Butterball's overall business strategy.

Butterball LLC is the largest producer of turkey products in the United States. Headquartered in Garner, North Carolina, Butterball was formed in October 2006, when Carolina Turkeys acquired the Butterball brand from ConAgra Foods.
