Russia Drops Safety Guarantee Letters

RUSSIA - The Russian food safety agency, Rosselkhoznador, has cancelled the need for the US to send guarantee letters from meat processing companies over the detection of salmonella in poultry meat.

The Russian authorities had required letters of guarantee over the safety of poultry meat products because of the differences in the inspection procedures between the US and the Russian Federation.

The requirement for letters was introduced in April 2002.

However, now Rosselkhoznador has said it will no longer require the letters.
