Newcastle Disease Hits Peruvian Fighting Birds

PERU - There has been another outbreak of Newcastle disease (ND) in a flock of fighting birds.

The veterinary authority sent Immediate Notification dated 15 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE),

According to the report, the outbreak was in a flock of 75 'village' poultry kept in an urban area as fighting cocks in the town of Buenos Aires in the department of La Libertad in north-western Peru. From 22 January, four of the birds showed symptoms of the disease and three died.

There is no commercial poultry farm in the neighbouring area.
