Palestine Reports New Avian Flu Outbreak

PALESTINIAN TERRITORY - Another outbreak of H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza has occurred in a layer pullet flock in the West Bank.

The veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No.1 dated 24 January to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It describes an outbreak of avian flu in flock of 93-day-old layer pullets in Qaqeliq, which is in the West Bank. Of the 5,000 birds on the farm, 4,5000 died and the rest have been destroyed.

The source of infection was thought to have been fomites.
