Volker Altenbokum, director of international business development at BioZyme, spoke with The Poultry Site’s Sarah Mikesell at IPPE in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

“BioZyme is a fermentation company,” said Altenbokum. “We grew up with fermentation, and we are more than 70 years now in the business and are based in St. Joseph, Missouri, USA. I work with the international business development team.”

“We work with fermentation of Aspergillus oryza, a fungus that we have been using for many, many years in animal nutrition,” he explained. “But at the same time in the US market, we have mineral supplements, and we have another kind of line for the equine market, and for pet food with other products.”

New product launch

“We are here at IPPE to launch AO-Biotics EQE,” he said. “We have named our product line of additives, AO-Biotics coming from Aspergillus oryza and being a biotic product, a prebiotic that is what we are famous for already with the Amaferm.”

AO-Biotic EQE stands for egg quality enhancer, and this is a new category that BioZyme is working in.

“It's a post-biotic category,” said Altenbokum. “Before we had prebiotics, and now we have pre and post biotic products, and that’s what we are talking about today.”

“Although the US market is obviously a very interesting one, we need to launch the product globally,” he said. “That's the part of the launch that I am responsible for.”

Poultry is produced around the world, and BioZyme is working on a project to launch this new product globally.

“We were at EuroTier in Germany in November and now we're here at IPPE in Atlanta to launch it into the American market, not only the US but also the Latin and South American markets.”

Solutions for global producers

“We come from an umbrella approach, Amaferm is used in a lot of species,” he said. “Now we have listened to the market, and we have identified a few points that we believe AO-Biotic EQE can handle and tackle.”

BioZyme is tackling poultry issues using the new AO-Biotic EQE (Egg Quality Enhancer). BioZyme is working to help producers achieve better egg quality and egg mass.

“Our research also found a tremendous improvement in the productive lifespan of the birds,” said Altenbokum. “So that's what we are here to explain and talk to customers about.”
