Highlights from the 2020 Quality and Welfare Egg China Summit

The 2020 Quality and Welfare Egg China Summit, co-sponsored by FAI Farm, China Animal Health and Food Safety Alliance (CAFA) and IQC, was successfully held in Shanghai on October 15. The Summit received strong support from the Chinese government, universities, industry associations and regional poultry enterprises.

More than 200 people from academia, industry associations, scientific research institutions, representatives of breeding, equipment, processing, testing and certification, catering and retail, and media participated. The summit was broadcast live in both Chinese and English to global participants, garnering more than 10,000 views.

Mr. Oistein Thorsen, CEO of FAI Farms, gave the opening speech and expressed his gratitude to all the guests and participants for their support for this conference. The goal of the conference was to provide scientific reference for non-cage systems, laying hen welfare standards and technical guidance to introduce the best practices of welfare systems around the world. At the same time, through the establishment of a platform, the industrial chain can be closely linked to promote the development of cage free egg production.

国家动物健康和食品安全创新联盟常务副秘书长孙忠超博士为大会致辞,本届会议旨在为引导社会各界关注蛋品行业,重视蛋品安全,并以此为契机,更好地促进蛋品消费,加快中国蛋品行业实现跨越式发展。

Dr. Sun Zhongchao, deputy secretary general of China Animal Health and Food Safety Alliance (CAFA), hopes the meeting could guide the community to pay close attention to the egg industry, pay attention to egg safety, and take this opportunity to better promote egg consumption and accelerate the development of China's egg industry.

|蛋品主题日活动启动仪式

中国是世界最大的鸡蛋生产国,鸡蛋品质与福利因素备受消费者关注,为此国家动物健康和食品安全创新联盟联合鸡蛋上、下游企业,发起中国蛋品主题日活动。大会现场邀请来自行业协会,鸡蛋养殖加工企业,动物保健、养殖设备企业的数十位嘉宾开启蛋品主题日活动启动仪式。

China is the world's largest egg producer, and the quality and welfare of eggs has attracted significant consumer attention. Therefore, CAFA joined with egg upstream and downstream enterprises to launch the China Egg Focus Day. At the conference site, dozens of guests from industry associations, egg breeding and processing companies, animal health care and breeding equipment companies were invited to open the launching ceremony of China Egg Focus Day.

|鸡蛋标准及采购清单发布

上海悦孜的执行总裁熊传武博士主持了可生食鸡蛋和福利鸡蛋标准及推荐采购清单发布。由国家动物健康和食品安全创新联盟(CAFA)组织编写的可生食鸡蛋标准通过工作组和生产企业的讨论和试用,现已正式通过认监委备案成为认证标准。

2020年5月1日,上海悦孜(IQC)与人道农场动物关怀组织(HFAC)达成国家伙伴合作关系,来自HFAC的福利鸡蛋国际标准中文版正式发布。

参考相关动物福利养殖标准,历时两年上海悦孜实地调研了25家福利养殖蛋鸡企业,并分享了福利鸡蛋采购推荐清单。

Dr. Xiong Chuanwu, CEO of IQC, presided over the release of fresh ready-to-eat egg standards and welfare standards and shared the recommended welfare egg supplier list. The fresh ready-to-eat egg standard which was organized by CAFA had been discussed and piloted by the working group and production enterprises. It has been officially registered as a certification standard by Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA). On May 1, 2020, IQC and HFAC reached a national partnership and the Chinese version of standard of Egg Laying Hens issued. Referring to the relevant animal welfare standards, IQC investigated 25 welfare egg suppliers and shared the recommended list.

中国农业大学经济管理学院副教授王文信博士为我们介绍了我国蛋鸡产业发展历程,发展现状及现阶段存在的问题。同时也从标准化程度,市场准入制度,适度的养殖规模和适应消费升级等方面进行了分享。

Prof. Wang Wenxin with China Agricultural University introduced the development process, development status and existing problems of the layer industry in China. At the same time, he also shared the information about standardization degree, the market access system, appropriate breeding scale and adaptation to consumption upgrading.


|闫梅英博士

来自中国疾病预防控制中心传染病所腹泻病室的闫梅英博士专业的角度分享了我国沙门菌感染的概况。闫博士介绍了沙门菌属的分类、致病性,我国的沙门菌检测系统和流行病学特征。通过统计分析得出沙门菌爆发的溯源归因于食品,为食品行业沙门氏菌的预防和控制提供了专业建议。

Dr. Yan Meiying, researcher with the Chinese Center For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC), shared the general situation of Salmonella infection in China from a professional point of view. Dr. Yan introduced the classification, pathogenicity, detection system and epidemiological characteristics of Salmonella in China. Through statistical analysis, it is concluded that the source of Salmonella outbreak is attributed to food, which provides professional suggestions for the prevention and control of Salmonella in food industry.

华南农业大学兽医学院的张建民博士重点介绍了动物源食品沙门氏菌的预防和控制措施。做好生物安全防控,建立无感染的种鸡群,使用无污染的饲料和良好饲养环境,加强鸡场的卫生管理,从源头上进行控制,降低或切断肠炎沙门菌的穿透与传播途径。

Dr. Zhang Jianmin, associate professor of South China Agricultural University, introduced the prevention and control measures of Salmonella in animal-derived food, including biological safety, prevention and control, establishing a non-infectious breeder flock, using pollution-free feed and a good breeding environment, strengthening the sanitary management of chicken farms, controlling disease from the source, and reducing or cutting off the penetration and transmission route of Salmonella enteritidis.

FAI农场的首席科学家Ashleigh Bright博士通过线上连线的方式给参会者分享了非笼养鸡蛋机会和实践研究,重点介绍了动物福利的2个挑战分别为鸡只恶性啄癖和胧骨骨折。

Through the online connection, FAI Farms Chief Scientist Dr. Ashleigh Bright shared the opportunity of non-cage eggs and practical research, focusing on the two challenges of animal welfare - injurious pecking and keel bone fractures.

Executive Director of FAI Farms Brazil Murilo Quintiliano introduced the best practices and schedule management of non-caged eggs from multiple perspectives, such as production system, animal habits, facility resources, breeding management, veterinary health, etc.

人道农场动物关怀组织全球项目总监Luiz Mazzon为大家介绍了人道农场动物关怀组织(HFAC)和人道认证项目以及动物福利标准。养殖场、加工厂实施动物福利标准,获得认证的产品印有认证标志,实现了动物福利产品的标准化。

Luiz Mazzon, Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) Global Program Director, introduced HFAC, certification programs and animal welfare standards. Through the promotion and implementation of animal welfare standard in farms and processing factory, certified products will have certification marks, helping to build awareness of the standardization of animal welfare products.

Wang Zhongqiang with the Beijing Egg Processing & Shell Industrial Association hosted the conference in the afternoon. The topic was “A Preliminary Study on Domestic Market and Production Practice”.

上海悦孜咨询的追溯总监姚立霞女士为我们分享了中国福利鸡蛋的调研情况。通过线上和线下的问卷调查,了解零售、餐饮行业,消费者对福利鸡蛋的看法及发展建议。非笼养企业的现场调研展示了企业的分布,养殖规模,养殖方式等信息,分析了现有非笼养养殖模式的优点和主要问题。

Yulia Yao, IQC, shared the summary of welfare egg investigations. On-line and off-line questionnaire surveys were used to understand retail, catering, industry and consumer views on egg welfare and development suggestions. The on-site survey of non-cage suppliers shows the information about supplier location distribution, the breeding scale and breeding module, and analyzes the advantages and main problems of the existing non-cage breeding.

中国动物卫生与流行病学中心中国动物福利联络人肖肖博士蛋鸡福利标准的差异比较,蛋鸡动物福利评价,饲养模式和设等方面给大家带来了干货满满的分享,并且展示了国内多家蛋鸡企业的福利养殖系统。

Dr. Xiao Xiao, with the China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center and OIE, introduced a comparison of the differences in the welfare standards of laying hens, the evaluation of laying hens' animal welfare and the breeding module and facilities and showed welfare breeding systems of many domestic laying hen companies.

来自苏州欧福蛋业股份有限公司的韩太鑫副总裁养殖加工角度介绍了蛋鸡饲养方式,欧洲、美国和中国的蛋鸡福利养殖现状,以及中国当前的生产状况。同时也分享了欧福在江苏启东的“欧盟标准蛋鸡动物福利项目”,展示了蛋鸡的福利养殖,生产全流程管理和基于区块链的追溯系统。

Han Taixin, from Suzhou Ovoda Foods Co., Ltd., introduced the breeding method of laying hens from the perspective of breeding and processing, welfare breeding status of layers in Europe, the Americas and China and the current production situation in China. He also shared the “EU Standard Laying Hen Welfare Experiment Program" in Qidong, Jiangsu Province and showed welfare breeding, production process management and traceability systems based on block chain.

大荷兰人中国区蛋鸡设备公司的侯杰先生分享了在改善规模化蛋鸡的生产性能的实践经验。蛋鸡全福利系统的转变面临着养殖习惯、鸡群管理、蛋品管理的各项挑战。规模化全福利系统的应用在解决这些困难和挑战方面提供了可借鉴的方案。

Mr. Hou Jie, with Big Dutchman, shared his practical experience in improving the production performance of large-scale laying hens. The transformation of the whole welfare system of laying hens is faced with various challenges, such as breeding habits, chicken management and egg management. The application of a large-scale total welfare system provides a reference program to solve these difficulties and challenges.

联合利华可持续采购保证经理Vanessa King分享了全球福利鸡蛋的发展趋势。抗菌素耐药性是食品安全的重要问题,较高的转换成本是制约非笼养发展的一个因素,没有行业认可的无笼蛋生产定义或无笼蛋标准,这些都是现阶段福利鸡蛋养殖的难点但是同时也是机会点。

Vanessa King, with Unilever, shared the development trend of global egg welfare. Antimicrobial resistance is a major public safety issue in China. Higher switching costs are a factor restricting the development of non-cage eggs. There was no industry-recognized definition or standard for cage-free egg production. These are all difficulties of egg welfare and breeding at this moment but they are also an opportunity.

Huang Mutzu, with Lever Foods, shared trends and advantages in non-cage breeding, and introduced enterprises which promise to use egg welfare in China, and also analyzed the cost difference between non-caged and traditional cage breeding.

大会最后,由IQC执行总裁熊传武博士致闭幕辞,对本次大会进行了总结并再次感谢了参会的各位嘉宾和参会者,同时也对福利鸡蛋的发展寄予厚望。至此第二届品质与福利鸡蛋(中国)高峰论坛圆满落下帷幕。

At the end of the summit, CEO of IQC Dr. Chuanwu Xiong gave the closing speech. He summarized and thanked all the guests for their participation in the Summit. He offered high hopes for the development of egg welfare. The 2nd Quality and Welfare Egg China Summit successfully ended.
