Section 1: UK Hatcheries Data - Placings and Eggs Set

  • UK placings of commercial broiler chicks in January 2007 were 2% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.1) . Eggs set were slightly lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.5) .

  • UK placings of female broiler parent chicks in January 2007 were 33% higher than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.2) .

  • UK placings of turkey poults in January 2007 were 33% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.3) . Eggs Set for commercial turkeys were 15% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.6) .

  • UK placings of commercial layer chicks in January 2007 were slightly higher than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.4) . Eggs set for commercial birds were 11% higher than in the same period in 2006 (Table 1.7) .

Section 2: UK Trade in Live Poultry

  • Imports of commercial broiler chicks in December 2006 were 26% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.1) .

  • Exports of commercial broiler chicks in December 2006 were 24% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.1) .

  • Imports of turkey poults in December 2006 were 82% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.2) .

  • Exports of turkey poults in December 2006 were 49% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.2) .

  • Exports of live fowls in December 2006 were 61% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.3) .

  • Exports of live turkeys in December 2006 were 37% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 2.3) .

Section 3: UK Slaughterhouse Data - Numbers Slaughtered and Average Weights

  • UK slaughterings of broilers in January 2007 were 1% lower than for the same period in 2006 (Table 3.1). At 2.22 kg the average liveweights in England & Wales were slightly higher than in December 2006 (Table 3.4).

  • UK slaughterings of boiling fowls in January 2007 were 10% lower than for the same period in 2006 (Table 3.2). At 2.10 kg the average liveweights in England & Wales were 11% lower than in December 2006 (Table 3.4).


  • UK slaughterings of turkeys in January 2007 were 15% lower than for the same period in 2006 (Table 3.3). At 16.79 kg the average liveweights of 'heavy' turkeys in England & Wales were 16% higher than in December 2006 (Table 3.4). At 5.83 kg the average liveweights of 'light' turkeys in England & Wales were 6% higher than in December 2006 (Table 3.4).

Section 4: UK Poultrymeat Production, Trade and Domestic Usage (Net of Offal)

  • Total UK poultry production in January 2007 was 1% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK broiler production in January 2007 was slightly higher than in the same period in 2006 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK boiling fowl production in January 2007 was 13% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK turkey production in January 2007 was 6% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK other production in January 2007 was 4% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 4.1).

  • Total UK imports of whole birds in December 2006 was 19% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.2).

  • Total UK imports of cuts in December 2006 was 21% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.2).

  • Total UK imports of poultrymeat in December 2006 was 13% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.2).

  • Total UK exports of whole birds in December 2006 was 24% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.3).

  • Total UK exports of cuts in December 2006 was 3% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.3).

  • Total UK exports of poultrymeat in December 2006 was 5% higher than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.3).

  • Total UK domestic usage of poultrymeat in December 2006 was 7% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 4.4).

Section 5: Other Poultry Statistics

  • UK Broiler Production of compound feed for poultry in December 2006 was 4% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.1).

  • UK Layer Production of compound feed for poultry in December 2006 was the same as the period in 2005 (Table 5.1).

  • UK Production of compound feed for poultry in December 2006 was 3% lower than in the same period in 2005 (Table 5.1).

  • The Chicken Fresh Price Index for January 2007 was 4% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 5.2).

  • The Poultry Price Index for January 2007 was 2% lower than in the same period in 2006 (Table 5.2).
