Cockfighters To Pay Steeper Fines
LOS ANGELES -- Cockfight operators will pay a heftier fine if they get caught next year. Gov. Gray Davis signed a bill Tuesday raising the penalty for cockfights from $1,000 to $5,000 for the first offense and to $25,000 for the second offense starting Jan. 1.
