Scarcity of Eggs Hit Nigeria - NIGERIA - Scarcity of eggs is reported to have hit many parts of Kano and Jigawa states as the commodity has become non-available, according to Kano Trust investigations.

In Jigawa, search for eggs has now turned into a serious venture as all available eggs finishes in the markets, while all poultry homes in Dutse, the state capital, have been sold off.

Investigations revealed that in some parts of the state, especially in Kazaure, Gumel and Birnin-Kudu, the commodity's price has increased.

For example, in Kano, due to the scarcity of the commodity, the prices have risen from N380 to N420 where available.

Reports indicates that the reason for the scarcity in Kano is due to the recent state government's policy to purchase eggs for schools.

Additionally, many people from Jigawa State have been travelling to other parts of the state to buy the commodity, even as consumers now resort to sending a particular person on their behalf to buy the commodity.

Meanwhile, reports say many people are concerned over the development as no one seems to know what actually caused the scarcity.
