ARGENTINA - Argentina doubled the amount of chicken meat sold abroad in 2003, exporting some 27,176 metric tons of fresh and processed chicken, the country's animal and plant health agency, Senasa, said Wednesday.

This puts Argentina's chicken exports at their highest level in nine years, according to Senasa.
In terms of volume, chicken exports rose 101% from 2002. In terms of value, sales rose 93%, totaling $34.7 million, according to Senasa.
The main destination for fresh Argentine chicken in 2003 was Germany, which imported 4,857 tons.
Saudi Arabia ranked second, with 4,679 tons and Chile came in third with 3,180 tons.
Germany was also the top buyer of processed chicken, accounting for 1,199 tons. Holland was next with 886 tons and Brazil ranked third with 175 tons.
