Farmers to reap the benefits of more Government grants - UK - More government grants to help farmers improve efficiency and share best practice have been awarded today.
Food and Farming Minister Lord Whitty announced two new grants under the Agriculture Development Scheme (ADS), designed to help farmers and the food chain to achieve improvements in line with the government's Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food.
Defra will fund a series of Home Grown Cereals Authority masterclasses on improving grain industry efficiency. These training sessions will help spread best practice within UK cereal businesses. Linked to the Cereal Industry Forum programme, this project will promote better collaboration through the grain chain from grower to consumer.
Work by the Food Chain Centre to promote and explain benchmarking to farmers will also be funded.
The latest awards take the total amount in ADS grants since 2000 to more than £12.25million.

"These projects will help the food chain become more efficient.
"The programme of masterclasses complements government support for value chain analysis and benchmarking to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the grain chain. The Food Chain Centre's work will also encourage farmers to reap the benefits of benchmarking."
