Foie gras ban on the plate of California legislators

A California Senate committee on Monday approved a bill that would ban the sale and production of foie gras in that state. The bill, which was sponsored by Sen. John Burton, D-San Francisco, seeks to ban the sale of foie gras produced through force-feeding and impose a daily $1,000 fine on those who make it, starting in 2011.
