Less Than One Week to End Force-Feeding of Geese

ISRAEL - A Knesset Committee has given the country's poultry farmers just one week to halt force-feeding of geese. The head of the Association of Geese Farmers, Hai Binyamini, said in response that the Knesset members acted irresponsibly in closing down an entire sector in just a few days, with no support for the farmers involved.

The farmers have been promised counseling for professional career change, but no information has been made available yet.

Without the ability to legally force feed the geese, Binyamini noted, there is no economic sense in raising them. As a result, hundreds of thousands of geese will have to be killed when the new regulations go into effect. "What do the Knesset members expect us to do with the animals?" Binyamini asked, exasperatedly.
