Butchers make a killing

UK - West country meat producer Lloyd Maunder claims a return to more traditional shopping practices was behind last week's (w/e Feb 25) acquisition of the Dewhurst butchery chain.

Spokesman Neil Macdonald said that Lloyd Maunders' own butchers' shops had enjoyed a revival in consumer interest recently, which convinced the firm to expand its butchery enterprises.

"We've operated shops since the 1880s and have been very successful with them in recent years. Customers are increasingly returning to ideas of buying from a butcher."

The firm, which owns several farms, a hatchery and feed mill, produces around 400,000 chickens a week as well as sausages and other processed meats.
