Farmers Unite To Fight Threatened Lawsuit

OKLAHOMA - More than 400 farmers showed up Thursday in a show of solidarity against a threatened lawsuit by Oklahoma.

Poultry growers feel set upon by Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson, who has filed an intent to sue over polluted streams draining into Oklahoma rivers and lakes. Thursday's meeting was an effort by poultry companies and poultry growers to fight the possible lawsuit.

"We have got to band together," said Steve Bryan, a member of a steering committee formed to create Poultry Partners Inc., which represents both farmers and poultry companies.

It is a forced response. Preston Keller, who facilitated Thursday's meeting, made it clear the meeting was for the benefit of farmers.
