Organic meat on the menu

WALES - Mid Wales farmers this week launched a new company to market Welsh organic beef, lamb, pork and poultry to the retail sector.

Cambrian Hills Co has been set up with £1m funding by Cambrian Organics, the Welsh farmer-owned organic meat company.

Most of the money will go towards a new organic processing and packaging centre next to the Food Centre Wales complex near Llandysul, mid Wales.

Since it was set up four years ago, Cambrian Organics has focused on selling meat direct to the public through mail order.

Now it hopes to become one of the UK's biggest retail suppliers of organic meat products.

Managing director Bill Lawrence said: "This is a huge leap for us, and a real opportunity to sell top quality organic meat products through national supermarket chains and leading stores.
