If possible be present through the whole inspection visit.
Ask how long the inspection will take and what areas the inspector is going to look at.
There should opening and exit meetings with the inspector providing a clear explanation of why there is a visit, the way the inspection will be carried out and what he/she needs from the member.
The RPA should take the necessary precautions to prevent the risk of contamination or spread of disease from one premises to another.
You should have kept a copy of you Single Payment Scheme application form and related paperwork/guidance in case you need to refer to it.
It is important during an inspection that a record is kept of what is viewed, what is said and what is measured. This is critical where it is considered there is a problem.
Taking pictures of a problem using your camera's automatic date display is useful.
Record as much information as possible and clarify any issues with the Rural Payments Agency.
Ask for a copy of the inspection report. Remember there can be a delay between inspection and the outcome of it.
You should refer to the scheme literature at all times. If in any doubt of the scheme rules contact Callfirst on 0870 8458458.
Section R of the 2005 SPS handbook covers inspections and section T covers complaints against the handling of the inspection and appeals against any decisions that result.
