14,000 Farmers Benefit From Project

NIGERIA - About 14,000 farmers are expected to benefit from the N800 million intergrated poultry project in Ekiti State through cultivation of maize and soya beans as the main feedstock for feed mill.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Boboye Olanipekun, told newsmen at a press conference in Ado-Ekiti yesterday that the feed mill machines and other equipment for the project will soon be completed at the headquarters of the scheme located in Afao-Ekiti and would gulp N300 million.

Olanipekun, who described the poulrty scheme as one of the most laudable projects to be embarked upon by any state goverment, said all the pen houses, each of which cost N25 million with generators and boreholes in 16 local governments will be completed by July 31.

He said N1.9 million has been disbursed as loan to 19 livestock farmers across the state for pullet production and pig fattening under special programme on food security of the state government. Besides, he said, 27 fish farmers benefitted from N1.7 million loan package for the implementation of aqua-culture and artisinal fishery activities.
