Fully organic poultry rations from 2012

UK - Prompted by a shortage of organic feeds, the EU is proposing a gradual phasing out of the non-organic feed derogation with 100% organic rations being required from the end of 2011.

A DEFRA spokesman explained: “From August 24, the non-organic will fall from the current 20% to 15%. This will run until 31 December 2007 when it will fall to 10% and then again to 5% two years later.

Fully organic poultry rations from 2012 - UK - Prompted by a shortage of organic feeds, the EU is proposing a gradual phasing out of the non-organic feed derogation with 100% organic rations being required from the end of 2011.

A Defra spokesman explained: “From August 24, the non-organic will fall from the current 20% to 15%. This will run until 31 December 2007 when it will fall to 10% and then again to 5% two years later.

“The result is that fully organic rations will be required from end of 2011.”

On top of this, the DEFRA spokesman said that there would be an extra stipulation that organic producers should use organic ingredients if they are available.

“Non-organic feed ingredients should only be used when organic equivalents are not available.”
