Poultry Farm Decision Put Off

UK - Councillors may not be legally allowed to limit ammonia emissions at a poultry farm in Churcham even if it does expand its capacity.

Officers explained they are no longer certain the council has the authority to place a limit on Stone End Farm as a condition of granting approval for the increase.

The firm wants to extend its capacity from 600,000 to 720,000 birds.

A decision on the application has been deferred for another month following a planning meeting of Forest of Dean District Council.

This is to allow for further investigation and negotiation. Churcham and Huntley councillor Venk Shenoi said: "The Environment Agency has said 'How can we enforce these conditions?

"We don't want to add on conditions that we don't understand - we've got to leave it to the professionals."
