Poultry in motion

US - Is Ronald McDonald turning chicken? McDonald's, which already sells 600 million pounds of chicken annually, expanded its feathered-friends portfolio further with a nationwide rollout of three new premium chicken sandwiches a few days ago.

Burger King seems similarly chicken-hearted, unveiling its TenderGrill Chicken sandwich as well as the BK Chicken Fries, which are thin, deep-fried chicken strips served in an open-ended, cupholder-friendly container that facilitates one-handed munching.

We don't ordinarily devote much of this space to the fast-food world, but with chicken on the rise (U.S. per capita chicken consumption this year is expected to reach 87 pounds, more than 40 percent of which will be supplied by food-service outlets, says the National Chicken Council), a taste test seemed like a good idea.
