Poultry industry to produce more dressed chicken 'til yearend

PHILIPPINES - The country's poultry industry is projected to expand by nearly four percent this year, fueled mainly by the growing domestic demand for chicken meat, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said.

The agency said that the industry is being forecasted to produce over 680,000 metric tons of dressed chicken by the end of this year.

"The future looks promising for the Southern Philippines poultry industry with the opening of the Asian market," the DA said.

In the wake of this development, the DA added, it is envisioned that in the next few years, the country will not only be supplying Japan and other Asian neighbors but as well as the Middle East markets with the production of Halal chicken.
