Poultry Lawsuit Check Already At $1 Million

OKLAHOMA - Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson said Monday that his office has spent more than $1 million on a lawsuit aimed at drastically reducing the amount of chicken and turkey litter spread on fields in the Illinois River Watershed.

Edmondson has asked for money to repair damage caused to the watershed by poultry litter runoff into waterways as well as attorney fees and other costs if certain claims in the lawsuit are successful.

Poultry litter is usually a combination of bird manure and rice hulls or wood chips.
